The definition of Editorial illustration in its simplest form is artwork that has been created to respond to written text, predominantly articles from newspapers, magazines and blogs. This particular field of illustration allows the illustrator to articulate their own opinions and infuse their personal touch in their work, while still capturing the concept of the topic and text in hand. An Editorial illustrator’s job, is to use their creative abilities as an opportunity to think different, using supportive evidence, show their personal view on the set topic or text.
A good editorial Illustrator is able to tackle complex conceptual content, and create art work to support said matters in a way that captures all aspects. Sometimes words aren’t enough to express a voice.
